Packet Tracer video tutorial - Getting started

In my previous post, I promise to provide a helloworld project as exercise. Here we go, in this video, we will connect 3 pc with hub or switch, then test the connect with ping.



Step 1, Put a PC in the workspace.

On the lower-left corner, Click "End Devices" -> drag and drop the "Generic" computer icon to the workspace.

Step 2, Set IP address.

Double click the computer icon, Click "Config" tab, in the "IP Address" text box, input "192.168.1.1", Click the "Subnet Mask" text box, "255.255.255.0" will be auto-filled.

Step 3, Put one more PCs in the workspace.

Repeat step 1 and step 2, in the "IP Address" text boxes, input "192.168.1.2".

Step 4, Put a hub in the workspace.

On the lower-left corner, Click "Hubs" -> drag and drop the "Generic" hub icon to the workspace.

Step 5, Connect hub and PC.

On the lower-left corner, Click "Connections" -> Click the "Copper Straight Through" cable (black real line icon).

In the workspace, Click the hub -> Select one of the FastEthernet port -> Click one of the PC -> Select FastEthernet port

Notice the green dots shall appear in a few seconds.

Step 6, Repeat step 5 for the other PC.

Step 7, Ping the PCs.

At the right side of the workpace, Click the envolope icon ->in the workplace, Click PC0, then Click PC1

Notice the successful message at the lower-right corner of the workpace.

The connection for Switch is similar to hub.
